oh how i'd love to drive back to north carolina right about now... =(
october 3rd, 2004 - all in all a very fun day. my dad had a catering company covert the front lawn into a outdoor dining area where his fifty bazillion friends came to enjoy the festivities. paul and pete came, of course, paul with his expensive camera equipment, and pete with his lingering allergies from his cat. we got our pop a spiffy digital video camcorder, some panasonic model i forget. lots of food, beer, wine, and karaoking, which at the end manifested itself in an ESL teacher, who ended up singing "imagine" by john lennon in an extremely inebriated state. fortunately, an hour of volleyball (whose net took me and mary an hour to set up) took care of all that.
Here's something that some of you may be interested in. This includes those in medical school with interest in biomedical research.
The East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering first-hand research experience in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, or Taiwan, an introduction to the science and science policy infrastructure of the respective location, and orientation to the culture and language. The primary goals of EAPSI are to introduce students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering in the context of a research laboratory, and to initiate personal relationships that will better enable them to collaborate with foreign counterparts in the future. The institutes last approximately eight weeks from June to August and are administered in the United States by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The National Institutes of Health (NIH) co-sponsor the Summer Institute in Japan.

what an awesome movie... pixar seems to do better and better with every movie they release, this time with the help of a new director with a fresh idea straying away from the overly cutsie "toy story," "finding nemo"-esque story line. people actually die in this movie! many many times!
minae and i took a trip a couple weeks ago to washington d.c. where we stayed with my pop and did a little sight seeing in georgetown. it was minae's first time in the nation's capital, but sadly we never got to into the city because of too much shopping :p minae - i promise we'll go next time!
