we decided to have a bunch of friends over for dinner the other day, and before i got too giddy on wine and full on food, i snapped a picture of our lovely ikea bursta dining table. this is the first time we've hosted 8+ people in san diego, which turns out to be a lot tougher in our apartment than it was in our townhouse back in north carolina (*sigh* i miss our hardwood floors...). in any case, we had pasta carbonara on our menu, and finally got to try out the red wine that soojin gave us for our wedding. it turned out to be quite good!

after dinner, we continued into the living room and played some music. it turns out that the jinyoung (who just moved to san diego a couple weeks ago) is a music composition major and knows piano quite well. the evening ended with a two hour texas hold-em poker session, which yielded peter and jinyoung as the winners. a trip to vegas, anyone?

i was flipping through some old albums i transferred on to our ipod that i haven't used in god knows how long. i decided to put on the cure since i had just heard on the radio that they'll be performing at the cox arena on june 3rd and completely forgot how freaking awesome this band is, particularly track 11, "a letter to elise." if you have the album handy (or just go here), take a listen to the song.

whatever you do, though, please please PLEASE don't listen to any cure covers!

other favorites in this album: high, doing the unstuck, friday i'm in love, and trust.

minae and haemi both had their second baptism last sunday at a joint service with the american and korean community at st. columba's catholic church. this service was interesting in that it was half held in english and half in korean. since they had assigned photographers, i wasn't able to get a good angle, but i did get a good reach with the 135mm lens!

There's an amazing photo gallery of a thunderstorm intersecting a volcano eruption in Chile. The photos are absolutely incredible, and it's the first time that the volcano Chaitén had erupted in 450 years.

ironman-tomatometer.jpgyou know, i was really skeptical when i first read about this movie in wired magazine. the concept admittedly sounded stupid, and to cast robert downey, jr?! well, after hearing about the reviews from minae off of rottentomatoes.com, it certainly perked my interest. so we went to go see it this past weekend on a DLP theatre, and gosh darn, this has been one of the best marvel comics movies that has been made yet! robert downey, jr. seems actually perfect for this role, and had managed to make to the character likable through his carelessness and sarcasm. if you get a chance to watch this, you should definitely go to a theatre with a digital projector!

welcome to phil's blog and thanks for visiting! i started this blog since the fall of 2003, just as the idea of web logging started to catch on, and through the years, this blog has witnessed a number of life changing events, from my first real experiences at both life and death, to my internship in south korea where i met minae, and a big decision to move out west from the east coast to southern california. i hope you'll continue reading as i attempt to balance my engineering career against my passions for photography, music, and art. feel free to explore and comment on anything that might catch your eye!
